About Duncan Richards

Hoxton Lightrooms presents a selection of my photographic work, made over many years and across a wide range of locations. The galleries are curated to reflect the principles that underpin my work and guide the way I approach each image: respect for place, accuracy of representation, and integrity of process.

I grew up in the West Country of the United Kingdom, where an early interest in drawing and painting landscapes shaped the way I learned to observe light, form, and atmosphere. Over time, pencils and canvas gave way to a camera, beginning with 35mm film. Photography offered a direct and precise way to realise the images I envisaged — allowing me to work with clarity while remaining faithful to what was present in front of the lens. Each photograph shown here continues that early pursuit: the desire to capture and preserve compelling views of the world.

As my work has evolved, it has been continually shaped by the places I am fortunate to visit. While locations and subjects vary, my approach remains consistent. I work with minimal post-processing, aiming to produce images that remain true to the experience of the moment they were captured. I hope that both a respect for landscape photography and a sense of quiet excitement can be felt throughout the work.

Hoxton Lightrooms is an ongoing project. New galleries and submissions are added as the collection grows, with the aim of building a thoughtful and engaging space for the sharing of photographic work. Based in Hoxton, London — a long-established centre of creativity and exchange — the project reflects both its local roots and its outward-looking perspective. I welcome correspondence from viewers and fellow photographers, and hope to develop Hoxton Lightrooms into a platform where others may contribute, exhibit, and engage.

The images displayed on this website are scaled-down versions of the original files, which are considerably larger and richer in detail and colour. All exhibited works comply with the regulations and guidance issued by the Landscape Photographer of the Year and Wildlife Photographer of the Year competitions. Signed, limited-edition prints are available, produced in collaboration with leading fine-art print studios in Shoreditch and Farringdon, London. Each work is released as a strictly limited, numbered, and certificated edition. Commissions and related projects may also be discussed.

At the time of writing, all images have been captured using a Sony full-frame mirrorless camera system with a selection of G and G Master lenses.

With warm regards,

Duncan Richards
